Stonewall Scotland urges the nation to say I Do to Equal Marriage ( 14.12.11) |
100,000 postcard campaign to encourage MSPsStonewall Scotland today launched a campaign to send postcards to every MSP urging them to support equal marriage. One hundred thousand cards with the legends ‘Different Couples. Same Love’ and ‘People are People. Marriage is Marriage’ are being distributed across Scotland. The campaign is being funded by Stonewall Scotland donors from around the country. Colin Macfarlane, Director of Stonewall Scotland, said: ‘Three in five of Scots say they now support the move to allow committed and loving gay couples the right to marry. Our postcards will allow those voices to be heard at Holyrood. The recent consultation was welcome and it provided the Government with an opportunity to talk to the people of Scotland about their plans for equal marriage. It’s now time for people to talk directly to their politicians. ‘At Stonewall Scotland we’ve never sought so-called “gay rights”. All we’ve ever sought are exactly the same rights and entitlements that everyone else takes for granted. We’re now asking MSPs to show their commitment to equality by saying I do to equal marriage.’ Postcards are available from Stonewall Scotland at info@stonewallscotland.org.uk |
